Apples and Robins

It's not uncommon here in Maine to see large flocks of robins hanging around deep into the frigid temps of winter set in. You would think they would pack up and head south, but with all the food available it's like those 20 something year old kids... why bother to leave?

My neighbors have an old Crabapple tree and this year it was jam packed with apples - until this small flock of 8 just about stripped it bare. The were noisy and happily munching away, knowing that evening the temps would drop below zero. I guess they needed to pack on a few calories. Unlike me.

So much for the Cedar Waxwings.... the snooze, they lose.
