Football and Snow Buntings - a clever combination

On 'no school' Monday, when the rain finally ended and the sun tried to peek out the boys started to go stir crazy. I made them get into the car and we headed over to the high school football field to get some fresh air. They took turns kicking and throwing the football and it felt good to get out of the house.....

Looks like his soccer kick if you ask me..

Run Forrest, run!

And then I got distracted. A flock of what I thought were Pine Siskins flew overhead, cheeping and peeping along the way. That flock merged with another and then I started to see glimpses of white on the wings. I took off running across the field........

Eben came with me, trying to figure out what I was doing. I told him I thought it was a flock of Snow Buntings and explained how they live up north and travel down this way in the winter. We snuck up on them slowly and I realized that's exactly what they were - Buntings. Then Monkey and Bubster came running up behind us and scared the flock off once, then again. My first sighting was last year around the 1st, so I'm only a few days late. :)
