In between hikes....

After leaving Jockey Cap, I headed north on Rt 302 to see if there were any crazy canoeists on the Saco River. I was not disappointed, being Labor Day Weekend I should have known better than to underestimate the crazy kids. The Saco is a well known spot for canoeists, kayakers and party animals alike. It's not uncommon to see a dozen or so canoes rafted together and aimlessly navigating their way in the easy current.

The typical day consists of putting in at Swan's Falls or just off 302 North at the bridge then floating downstream to the 302 East bridge. It can be done in a day, but most of the partiers will spend the night on a sandy beach between here and there. They've really ruined it since I was younger, the beaches are strewn with trash and now the river is patroled to ensure safety. Sad.

A very calm and serene Saco River, looking west off the 302 North/South bridge

A couple of canoeists are prepping to 'put in'. The crystal clear water shows off the beautiful sandy bottom.

Looking to the East, quite a few groups are heading downstream

Reminds me of the good old days....
