In the middle of November, Maine saw a snowstorm. Right after that snow, we had a Pileated show up, a beauty at that! These guys are huge and you can hear them ratt-a-tatting a mile away in the woods. This bad boy is a male, you can tell by his red strips across his cheek. Showoff. Here he's beating away at my pine tree right behind the house.
